History of the Association of Filipino Educators in Korea (AFEK),
formerly Philippine Resource Persons Group (PhilRPG)
The Philippine Resource Persons Group (PhilRPG) was conceptualized in 2007 through a discussion between His Excellency Amb. Luis T. Cruz and a group of Filipino professors, headed by Prof. Manuel “Bangy” Dioquino. The original purpose of the group was to serve as a think-tank of the Philippine Embassy in its education-related programs.
It took about 2 years before the group was able to hold its first meeting on May 23, 2009, at Hannam University in Daejeon. 8 Filipino professors and an Embassy official, Consul General Sylvia Marasigan, attended the meeting. The professors present were: Prof. Manuel C. Dioquino (Kyung Hee University), Prof. Danilo Arao (Hannam University), Prof. Joel David (Inha University), Prof. Gilda Uy (Woosong University), Prof. Joel Yu (Woosong University), Prof. Reil Cruz, Woosong University, Prof Raymund Guerrero (Woosong University), and Prof Maragtas S.V. Amante (Hanyang University). The invited Resource person was Ms. Sonyang Park, Woosong University.
In this meeting, the formal election of Prof. Manuel “Bangy” Dioquino as the Chairperson was done and a discussion about the vision and the mission of the group ensued.
